TouchWood Editions is pleased to announce that Katie Bickell’s Always Brave, Sometimes Kind has been shortlisted for the 2021 ReLit Awards in the Novel category. The announcement was made on April 19 on the award’s Instagram page and the winners will be announced on April 23.
The ReLit Award is a Canadian literary prize awarded annually to book-length works in the novel, short-story, and poetry categories published by an independent press. After hearing of the nomination Katie Bickell shared, “I couldn’t be more honoured to have Always Brave, Sometimes Kind in the company of such dynamic, incredible Canadian authors as those found on the ReLit Longlist. The ReLit Awards celebrate work from our country’s most courageous publishers—indie presses who aren’t scared to push the boundaries on genres, subject matter, or take a shot on a new author (like me!). Our country’s indie publishers prioritize quality literature above all buzz and bottom-lines, and thus strengthen Canada’s collective culture. Thank you, ReLit Awards, for recognizing the value in independent voices.”
