Healthy Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothies

Homemade smoothies are a delicious way to get a dose of probiotics into your diet while skipping the sugar usually found in store-bought flavoured yogurts. While berry and mango smoothies are naturally sweet and delicious, this protein-packed chocolate smoothie is rich enough for dessert and healthy enough for a midday indulgence.

Serves 2-4

INGREDIENTS

2 cups (500 mL) plain buttermilk or yogurt
2 ripe bananas ¼ cup (60 mL)
smooth natural peanut butter
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp pure vanilla extract

RECIPE

Place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend on low speed until the bananas are fully puréed and everything is well mixed. Serve immediately or pour into a large mason jar, cover, and store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just give the mason jar a good shake to remix everything before serving.

Leftover smoothies are also perfect for homemade ice pops. Pour the smoothie into an ice pop mould and freeze until solid, at least 5 hours. They’ll last in the freezer for up to 1 month.

TIP: We don’t eat a lot of sugar, so this recipe isn’t very sweet. If you have a sweet tooth, feel free to add 2 Tbsp honey for a bit more sweetness. This is especially recommended if you plan on making ice pops, as frozen foods tend to need a bit more flavour.
